The indoor fan type depends on your unit: wall-split systems use a long cross-flow (barrel) fan, while ducted and cassette units use sirocco (centrifugal) blowers or turbo fans. Common faults are worn bearings (a rumble or squeal), a failing motor (weak airflow, or the fan not starting), or an out-of-balance fan (vibration). Many indoor fan motors also rely on a capacitor, so a fan that won’t start can come back to that. The genuine, model-matched fan and motor keep the airflow and noise level the unit was designed for.
