Thermistors — the temperature sensors

Most of the sensors in a Daikin are thermistors: small temperature sensors on the indoor and outdoor air intakes, the coils, and the refrigerant lines (liquid, gas and discharge). They tell the board how the system is running. A drifting or failed thermistor gives the board a wrong reading, which can cause poor performance, short-cycling, or a temperature-sensor error code.

Pressure switches and sensors

High- and low-pressure switches protect the compressor by cutting the system out if the refrigerant pressure goes out of safe range. If one trips repeatedly, it can be doing its job (a real pressure problem) or it can have failed — a technician will tell which.

On units with a condensate pump or a drain that can block, a float switch watches the water level and shuts the unit down before it overflows.
